Five things separate one package from another
Underneath, most Amboseli packages are the same trip. What makes them different — and what moves the price — comes down to five variables. Change any one and you have a different package.
How many nights
Park fees run per person for each 24-hour period, so nights are the biggest single lever. Two nights buys two full game days on one fee cycle.
Road or air
A vehicle is one cost shared by everyone aboard; a flight is a cost per seat. Party size, not preference, usually decides which is better value.
Where you sleep
Budget camp, mid-range lodge, luxury lodge or conservancy. The same route at a different tier is a genuinely different trip.
Private or joining
Your own vehicle and guide, or a seat in a shared one. Private costs more and controls the day; joining is cheaper and follows a set pace.
Park or conservancy
The national park allows vehicle game drives only. A conservancy night is the one way to add a guided walk or a night drive.

Almost every package on this page can be run at any of these tiers. Tell us which one you want and the itinerary stays the same — the beds, the space and the price change.

We do not publish lodge rates here. Camp pricing moves with season and availability, so we quote the real figure of the day rather than a number that ages badly.

Private departure or joining a group
This one changes the feel of the day more than most travellers expect. Every package here can run either way unless its page says otherwise.
Your vehicle, your day
The vehicle and guide are yours alone, and the day bends to you.
- Leave at first light, or sit with one elephant herd for an hour.
- Everyone gets a window, and the roof is yours for photography.
- Departs on your dates, not on a published schedule.
- Costs more per person, and much more for one or two travellers.
A seat in a shared vehicle
You share the vehicle and the guide with other travellers.
- The lowest per-person cost, especially for solo travellers.
- Fixed departure days and a fixed daily rhythm.
- Seats rotate, and sightings are shared with the group.
- Needs minimum numbers, so short-notice dates can fall through.
Two or three travellers on a short trip are often better off flying privately than joining a road group. We will tell you when that is the case, even though the joining seat is the cheaper thing to sell you.

What actually moves the price of a package
We do not publish figures on this page, because an Amboseli price is not one number — it is six inputs. Knowing which ones you can move is how you get the trip you want at a figure you are happy with.
Park days on the clock
Conservation fees are charged per person for every 24-hour period inside the park. More park days, more fee cycles.
Your party size
A vehicle cost divides across the group; a flight seat does not. Small parties save by flying, larger ones by driving.
Accommodation tier
The single biggest swing after length. The same route at budget and at luxury are different trips financially.
Season
Camps charge high-season rates in the dry months and around the holidays, and low-season rates through the long rains.
Private or joining
Exclusive use of a vehicle and guide, versus a shared seat, changes the per-person figure substantially.
Your residency
Kenyan citizens and residents pay lower park fees than non-residents. We quote every traveller at their correct category.

Choosing between packages
Questions people ask on this page
Season, wildlife and what to pack are answered on the main Amboseli page. These are the ones that come up when you are deciding between two packages.
Quotes are per person, but they are built from costs that behave differently. Park fees, beds and flight seats are per person; the vehicle, the guide and the fuel are one cost shared by everyone aboard. That is why a road package gets cheaper per head as your party grows, while a fly-in package barely moves.
Change it. Every package here is a starting shape, not a fixed departure — we operate our own vehicles and guides, so adding a night, swapping a tier or shifting a route is a real change on the ground rather than a booking-form option. If a change will not work, we say so and explain why.
For most first-timers, the 3-Day Amboseli Safari — two nights, two full game days, one fee cycle. If you have only one day, take the fly-in day trip over the road one. If you have four or five days, spend them on Amboseli plus Tsavo West rather than stretching a single park.
Up to a point. The first extra night is the best value you will ever buy here, because it turns a travel day into a game day on the same fee cycle. Past three nights in the park itself, most travellers get more from adding a second destination than from another Amboseli day — which is why the four and five-day packages mostly pair Amboseli with Tsavo West or the Mara.
Yes, and it is common. Amboseli extends naturally eastward — Tsavo West through the Kimana corridor, then Tsavo East toward the coast — so a shorter package plus a coast leg is usually cleaner than booking two separate trips. Tell us both halves at enquiry and we cost it as one itinerary.
Private departures run on your dates, year-round, subject to camp availability. Group-joining departures need minimum numbers, so they run on set days and can fall through at short notice. If your dates are fixed and non-negotiable, book private.
For the dry months and the December holidays, several months ahead — in-park beds and the better camps fill first, and late bookings get pushed outside the gate or up a tier. Outside those windows a few weeks is usually enough, and last-minute trips are often possible. Ask either way; we will tell you honestly what is still open.
Take the tailor-made route. Send your dates, party, budget and the one thing that matters most, and we build the itinerary around the fee clock and real drive times rather than around a template. Most of what we run started as a tailor-made request.
